Deep Freezer Ice Build-Up in Multan: Why and How to Fix

A deep freezer lined with thick ice is working against itself. Deep freezer ice build-up looks harmless, but it makes the freezer run longer, cool less well and use more electricity than it should.

Where the Ice Comes From

Every time the lid opens, moist air gets in. That moisture freezes onto the coldest surfaces, which are the walls and the cooling plates. A thin layer is normal. A thick layer acts like a blanket, so the freezer has to run harder to cool the space behind it, and it starts to struggle.

Common Causes

  • A worn lid gasket. Air leaks in around the edge even when the lid looks closed.
  • A lid that does not close fully. A bag or box sticking up keeps a gap open.
  • Frequent or long openings. Standing with the lid open while deciding what to take out.
  • Warm food or uncovered liquids. They add moisture inside the freezer.
  • Humid weeks. More moisture in the air means faster frost.
  • A faulty defrost system. On frost-free models, ice at the back wall points to a defrost heater, sensor or timer.

How to Defrost It Properly

  1. Unplug the freezer and move the food into a cooler or insulated bags.
  2. Leave the lid open and place towels and shallow trays around the base to catch water.
  3. Let the ice loosen on its own. A bowl of warm water inside can speed it up.
  4. Lift the softened ice away by hand or with a plastic scraper, then wipe the walls dry.
  5. Dry the inside completely, plug it back in and let it cool before refilling.

What Not to Do

  • Do not chip ice with a knife or screwdriver. A puncture in the freezer wall or cooling line can end the freezer.
  • Do not use a hair dryer or heater close to the plastic parts.
  • Do not leave water standing in the base.
  • Do not refreeze food that has fully thawed and sat warm without checking it first.

Signs It Is More Than Ice

  • Ice returns within days of defrosting.
  • The compressor runs almost all the time.
  • The walls feel warm or the bottom is not getting cold.
  • Water pools under the freezer after it has been running.
  • A frost-free model keeps building ice on the back wall.

When It Keeps Coming Back

If the ice returns after a proper defrost, a technician from our own team checks the gasket, thermostat and defrost parts at your home and explains the fault before starting. The home visit and fault check cost Rs. 900, adjusted against the repair if you go ahead. See our appliance repair in Multan page, and our guide to a fridge not cooling if the main fridge is acting up as well. Send us the brand and a photo of the freezer on WhatsApp.
