Washing Machine Not Draining in Multan: Causes and Fixes

You open the lid to find a drum of grey water and a cycle that has stopped halfway. A washing machine not draining in Multan is rarely the dramatic fault it looks like. More often something small is blocking the way out for the water.

Start at the Drain Filter

Most front-loaders have a small filter behind a panel near the bottom, and many top-loaders have a lint or pump filter. Coins, hair clips, buttons, lint and sock fluff collect there. Switch off at the wall, put a shallow tray and a towel on the floor, and open it slowly because water will come out. Rinse it under a tap and refit it firmly.

Other Causes, in the Order We See Them

  1. A kinked or blocked drain hose. A hose squashed behind the machine, or pushed too far into the standpipe, slows or stops drainage.
  2. A drain pump that has stopped working. If you hear humming but the water does not move, or hear nothing at all, the pump may be jammed or burnt out.
  3. A partly blocked standpipe or wall drain. If water backs up out of the standpipe, the trouble is in the house drain, not the machine.
  4. A lid or door switch fault. Some machines will not start the drain or spin cycle if they think the lid is open.
  5. A control board or sensor fault. The machine fills normally but never starts to drain, and the display may show an error code.

Hard Water Plays a Part

Multan groundwater is hard, and scale slowly narrows hoses and coats pump parts. A machine that has run for a few years on untreated water is more likely to clog than a new one. Using the right amount of detergent matters too, because too much builds a sludge that sticks in the pump and the filter.

What Not to Do

  • Do not reach into the pump housing while the machine is plugged in.
  • Do not keep restarting a cycle with a full drum. The load stays soaked and the motor strains.
  • Do not force the door open on a full machine. Drain the water first through the small emergency drain hose, if your model has one.
  • Do not pour drain cleaner into the machine.

Signs It Needs a Technician

  • The filter and hose are clear and the water still will not leave.
  • The pump hums but does not pump, or makes a grinding noise.
  • An error code flashes and clearing it does not help.
  • Water leaks from underneath while draining.
